September 12, 1936 — April 30, 2015

On Tuesday, April 28, 2015 Larry P. Botkin, age 78, passed away at home following a short illness. Larry was born on September 12, 1936 in Charleston, West Virginia, graduating from Huntington East High School in 1954, and marrying Patsy Ann Altizer in 1956. The two of them would spend the next 58 years together, raising two children, Tricia Jo, born in 1957, followed by Larry Robert in 1962. After moving to northwest Indiana in 1956, Larry enjoyed a long and successful career in the steel industry. It was here that he experienced his greatest career triumph where, as a Process Control Engineer, he worked in a small team which was tasked with the development of one of the first computer automated steel production lines. After retiring in 1986, he continued to consult on key production automation issues as the owner of PC Computing. In addition to his work in the steel industry, Larry also enjoyed a wide variety of other interests. He was an avid reader, sports lover, and Civil War history buff. He also loved photography, was a bird watcher and member of the Audubon Outdoor Club. In addition, he held an FCC Extra Class Amateur Radio Operators license for over thirty years going by the call sign of N9PC. Preceding him in death are his daughter, Tricia (2007); sister, Judy (2008); mother, Fay (1994) and father Holly (1983). Mr. Botkin is survived by his loving wife, Pat; son, Robert; grandchildren, Joseph, Margaret and Laura Kaufman. A memorial service for Larry will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 1, 2015 at Grace United Methodist Church.
