LaFern B. Griffin, age 88, passed away on May 18, 2023, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born in Orange Grove, Texas on July 30th, 1934.
LaFern was a woman of many talents and interests. She attended Orange Grove High School where she played in the band and also competed in volleyball, basketball, and was a cheerleader. This gave her a background that would keep her spirit young throughout the years.
LaFern was a working mom throughout her lifetime and some of her most memorable working experiences came from the Pharr Chamber of Commerce and Harris Moran Seed Co. where she met people with whom she made lifelong friends. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, dancing (especially to polka music), as well as spending time with family – these were all great passions of hers that LaFern always pursued with zest and passion. LaFern was remembered for her unwavering love for her family. She enjoyed working with her children as a family with their 4H and FFA projects. When it came to hair care appointments – LaFern never missed one! Her hair was a big part of who she was; if someone messed with it, they were sure to get into trouble! A well-kept hairdo became something of an icon to all who knew her.
LaFern was an ambassador for friendship and kindness. She always treated people with dignity and respect and made people feel comfortable around her as everyone who knew her loved her deeply. Simply stated, she was a sweet, kind, and loving lady.
LaFern is preceded in death by her husband, Dan Griffin and daughter-in-law, DeeAnna Griffin.
Left to cherish her memory are her two children - son, Ken (Kimberly) Griffin and daughter, Dana (John) Ellis. She also leaves behind six grandsons - Bryce (Kayla) Griffin, J.D. (Stephanie) Draker, J.R. (Emily) Draker, Johnny (Holly) Ellis, Trey Wilmoth, and Tyler Wilmoth. Furthermore, she was blessed with five great-grandchildren whom she cherished. She loved every moment that she was able to spend with them, their actions filled LaFern's life with joy.
A visitation will be held on May 21, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Sawyer-George Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas. On May 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM, a funeral service will be held at the First Lutheran Church in Orange Grove, Texas, followed by interment at Sons of Hermann Cemetery at 12:30 PM.
