Kenneth L. Smith, 80, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2015. He was born February 2, 1935 in Allen, Oklahoma to Walter C. Smith and Opal Duncan Smith. Kenneth spent his early years in the oil fields of California and North Dakota. While between jobs, he came to Corpus Christi in the summer of 1957 to visit some of his old friends from Allen, Oklahoma. Most of those folks had come down and gone to work at Suntide Refinery. Suntide (now Flint Hills) was still hiring, so Kenneth hired on and spent the next 40 years at the refinery and worked his way up to Operations Manager. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew, Shane Matthews, and his wife, Twyla Mays Smith in January, 2007. He is survived by his daughter, Kenna Smith: his son, Tracy (Terri) Smith; four grandchildren, Paige Smith, Kaylynn “Katy” Smith, Ryan Smith and Kelsi Smith; Joan Scott and her two sons, Curtis and Daymon Rogers and their families; sister, Carolyn (Keith) Snedeker; niece, Jessica Baker; grand niece, Brailee Baker. Visitation will be from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M. Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, August 31, 2015 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John McAllister officiating. Burial will follow in Robstown Memorial Park on FM 1889. Pallbearers will be O. S. “Poncho” Vickery, W. A. Patillo, George Johnson, T. D. Addkison, Curtis and Daymon Rogers.
