Kathryn Pearl Thornton, age 89, of Highland Village, Texas, passed away October 30, 2010. In 1956 the family relocated from Corpus Christi, Texas to Abilene, Texas where they raised their children. Kathryn began working for Sears and retired in 1987. She was an active member of Highland Church of Christ in Abilene as well as Women for Christian Homes for approximately 30 years. Kathryn became an Officer of Abilene Experimental Aircraft Association after building an airplane with her husband in the late 1950’s. They enjoyed traveling in both their airplane and, in their golden years, in their motor home across country. She always enjoyed painting with oils, quilting, and playing music with friends and family. In 1995 Kathryn returned to Corpus Christi where she became a member of Arlington Heights Church of Christ. The church was an important part of her life and she enjoyed many years of Christian fellowship. She was married for more than 60 years to Thurston A. Thornton who preceded her in death in 1997. Kathryn and Thurston had 3 children, Mary Kathryn Howard of Highland Village, Texas, Thurston Ashley Thornton Jr. of Abilene, Texas, and Michael Rae Thornton of Cadiz, Kentucky. She is survived by her 3 children, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. Friends and family will gather on Wednesday night at Sawyer-George Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas between 6 and 8 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.
