Kathryn Lee Burrell Cicora, age 79, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on September 9, 2013. She was born on October 17, 1933 in Kankakee, Illinois to Robert and Madelyn Downs Burrell. Kathy loved to travel and spent six years overseas with her husband, a Navy physician. She spent three years in the Philippines and three in Italy. While overseas, they traveled to numerous countries in Asia, the South Pacific, Europe and Africa. When she was in the Philippines she learned to SCUBA dive as part of a "pre-nuptial agreement," in which her husband agreed to learn to play bridge. Kathy continued to play bridge up to her last days. She was an active member of St Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church. Until a few years ago, she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society, serving a term as president. She was also a key staff member of Catholics Returning Home, a program, which, over the past five years, brought over 200 inactive Catholics back to the Church. After a missionary trip to the Philippines in 2001, she started a program to fund tuition for 27 indigent Philippino high school students, who would have been able to attend high school without a helping hand. Kathy assisted at the St Peter Food Pantry, arranged for St Peter parishioners to serve at the Mother Teresa Shelter, taught religion classes and served as an extraordinary (eucharistic) minister. She and her husband, a deacon, worked together on baptisms and convalidation of marriages in the Church. She and her husband lived in Indianapolis, where they were active in the St Vincent de Paul Society, and where both served together as co-presidents of the society. In addition to the above activities, Kathy enjoyed live theater, movies, music and reading. Preceded in death by her parents, and son Bob Rogerson. Survived by Ralph Allen Cicora, D.O., her husband of 37 yrs; Son Jim Rogerson, of Chicago, and daughter Nancy Rogerson, of Cleveland, Ohio, and sister, Carolyn Burrell of Champaign, IL. She leaves behind grandchildren: Ian, Danny, Maddie, Sean, Brett and Ryan, and four great-grandchildren. After graduating from Kankakee High School, she attended Purdue University, and later graduated from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. She received her Master's Degree in Curriculum Planning in Early Childhood from Corpus Christi State University in 1981. Kathy worked as an early childhood teacher, a day care director, and taught classes at Del Mar Junior College and at Corpus Christi State University. Donations can be made in her name to the Mother Teresa Shelter or the St Peter Food Pantry. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 7:00 P.M. at St Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church with Bishop Edmund Carmody as celebrant.
