Joyce Guerrero, 52, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2010 at her home after a long illness. She was born June 12, 1958 in Corpus Christi, Texas, lived here many years, in Galveston for 20 years and recently moved back to Corpus Christi. Joyce was employed by Texas A&M University Corpus Christi in the Gear Up Program, where she took pride in mentoring children that were struggling to complete their education. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Vera. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Robert Guerrero of Corpus Christi; her daughter, Yvette (George) Schmidt of Houston, Texas; her sons, Robert (Jillie) Guerrero of League City, Texas and Matthew Guerrero of Corpus Christi, Texas; her mother, Minerva Vera of Corpus Christi, Texas; her sister, Joann Claus of Corpus Christi, Texas; her brothers, Paul Vera of Corpus Christi, Texas and Phillip (Naomie) Vera of Germany; and many thanks to her mother-in-law, Rosa Guerrero and all of her family for the help and support they provided. Visitation will be from 2 P.M. until 8 P.M. Sunday, August 29, 2010 with a Rosary to be recited at 6:30 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 A.M. Monday, August 30, 2010 at St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church on Violet Road. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
