Johnny Lee Dungan, affectionately known as John, was born on February 15, 1947, in Olney, Illinois. He passed away unexpectedly on February 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, love, and cherished memories.
Johnny had a longstanding career in the construction industry, dedicating many years of service particularly in marine construction along the Texas Gulf Coast. His commitment to his work was evident in his time at J.M. Davidson, Inc., where he continued to labor until his retirement in 2021.
Educationally, Johnny attended Coronado High School in El Paso, Texas, and furthered his education at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico. Following his educational journey, he proudly served in the United States Navy from October 1964 to January 1968. As a distinguished veteran, Johnny was honorably discharged, earning commendations including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Bronze Star.
In addition to his professional achievements, Johnny enjoyed a rich personal life filled with various interests. He found joy in playing Gin Rummy and Poker with his friends. An avid golfer, deer hunter, and scuba diver in his earlier years, his zest for life was evident in the passions he pursued.
Johnny leaves behind his beloved wife, Wanda K Dungan, and their children: Jody R Dungan (married to Kimberly), Matthew B Dungan (married to Chrissy), and Cami L Dungan (married to Douglas Mauch). He is also survived by his sister, Angie Dungan, his stepmother, Ellen D Dungan, and stepbrother, Mark W Dungan (married to Lynley). His grandchildren, Michael, Kacy, Arrin, Hayden, and Chase Mauch, and Step Grandchild Scott Roberson will continue to carry forward his spirit and values.
He was preceded in death by his father, George W Dungan, mother, Lois M Dungan, and brother, Richard A Dungan.
Johnny's remarkable life comprised a unique blend of dedication to family, service to his country, and craftsmanship in his profession. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
