Johnie Dee Irwin, a proud product of Ingleside, Texas, passed away in the early hours of November 20, 2024. A lifelong fan of all things motorsports, but with a particular love for Corvettes and Formula One racing, he undoubtedly announced an unconventional entrance through the pearly gates with the revving of a 1969 Corvette Stingray and Jan and Dean’s “Surf City” for all to hear.
A natural artist and admirer of all things vintage, John was born to Inez and Dee Irwin in Ingleside in June 19, 1951. His teenage fondness for art, surf culture, and all things Hot-Rod were formed on the beaches of Ingleside and stayed with him for the rest of his life. Like many in the coastal bend, he had a particular love for Corvette Stingrays and purchased his first 1964 Stingray to celebrate the birth of his daughter in November 1973.
John is survived by a loving Pit Crew that misses his loving heart, contagious laugh, and selfless love for his grandchildren. His survivors include his wife, Sharon Irwin, of Corpus Christi, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and John Parker of Gainesville, VA; stepson and daughter-in-law, Cody and Krista Simpson of Houston, TX; and adoring grandchildren including Katherine Parker, Monroe Simpson, and Jace Simpson.
In a request that John may very well endorse, the family asks in lieu of flowers, please take a cruise down Ocean Drive, eat a big bowl of ice cream, enjoy a “cold can Coke” – and listen closely for Surf City playing from Heaven.
