John Smiley

August 8, 1924 — September 6, 2015

John Edward "Jack" Smiley, 91 years young, was born on August 8, 1924 in Toronto, Ohio to Vertice Smiley and Johanna Kubina Smiley. He was married to Jimmie Kathleen Ware Smiley June 8, 1947. They were blessed to be married 67 plus years before her death on March 1 of this year. Daddy went to meet his loving Lord and Savior, joining his precious wife on September 5, 2015. Dad enlisted in the U. S. Navy in June of 1942 at the age of 17. He proudly served in the Pacific Theatre in World War II aboard the U.S.S. Humphreys APD-12 in Operation Cartwheel, among other deployments. He was honorably discharged in January of 1946. He was most recently honored at the National Museum of the Pacific War and Admiral Nimitz Museum in Fredericksburg, Texas in June of last year with a memorial plaque to honor his service. Dad and Mom were owner/operators of Shell Pastry Shop for 40 plus years. They had many dedicated employees that became family to them as well as the many loyal customers that became friends. They were members of Tuloso Midway Baptist Church for 44 plus years where they built lifelong friendships. Dad was most proud of his family, which included his children Stanley Edward Smiley, Lezli Baugher (Rick), Teresa Shaw (Mickey), and Linda Condit (Brad); grandchildren Jill Nicole Baugher, Matthew Shaw (Emily), Cody Smiley, John Smiley (Bridget), Rebecca Shaw Hicks (John), Travis Condit (Clair), Jenna Condit Davis (Daniel) and most precious great granddaughter Madison Ann Shaw. We were so blessed to be raised in a home that put God first. Dad taught us to treasure family. He was so precious, we will miss him dearly. Visitation will be at Sawyer George Funeral Home Monday September 7, 2015 at 5:30-7:30 p.m. with services being held at Tuloso Midway Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with graveside service following at Memory Gardens.
