John F. Maxwell, Sr., 99, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away June 8, 2014. He was born June 1, 1915 in Ennis, Texas to Clifford Lee and Ethel Julia Slagle Maxwell. Mr. Maxwell was a member of Kings Crossing Church of Christ. Early in his career he worked for Humble Oil and Refining and then retired from the U.S. Navy Public Works after 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mary Louise Maxwell in 2003, his parents and three brothers, Dr. Ernest Maxwell, Dr. Everett Maxwell and Walter Maxwell. He is survived by his daughter, Jan (Bob) Kraner of Spring, Texas; his son, John F. (Karen) Maxwell, Jr. of Abilene, Texas; five grandchildren, Marc (Lisa) Maxwell of Portland, Oregon, Mary Beth (Charlton) Taylor of Trenton, Michigan, Jana (Alan) Austin of Mesquite, Texas, Rob (Courtney) Kraner of McKinney, Texas, and Cliff (Dena) Kraner of Spring, Texas; 11 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Visitation with the family present will be from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Friday, June 20, 2014 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Charlton Taylor officiating. Burial will follow. Pallbearers will be Rob Kraner, Cliff Kraner, Marc Maxwell, Cal Jennings, Robert Maxwell and Charlton Taylor.
