John Robert Hill, 71, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017 after battling lung cancer. He was born December 20, 1945 in Fort Worth, Texas to James Robert Hill and Pearl P. Butler. He moved to Corpus Christi in the late 1960’s and met his wife of 48 years, Patty Hill. He joined the Army in 1968 where he served in the Vietnam war. He received the Army Commendation Medal and a Purple Heart. John drove an 18-wheeler for 20 years with Coastal Transport. He loved to go fishing and camping and watching endless hours of the Western Channel. John is preceded in death by his father, James Robert Hill; mother, Pearl P. Butler; brothers, James Carl Hill and David Lee Hill; sister, Joyce W. Callaway. He is survived by his wife, Patty Hill; daughters, Carrie Koliba (Chris) and Debbie McWhorter (Matt), all of Corpus Christi; sisters, Dorothy Baxter and Patsy Miller; brothers, George Hill, Jerry Wayne Hill and Vernon Hill, all of Fort Worth, Texas; special nieces, Lisa Montano (Juan) of Portland, Texas, Donna Hamby (Keith) of Fort Worth, Texas and Honey Sue Cuevas of Skidmore, Texas; his three grandchildren which he loved dearly, Ryan and Lauren Koliba and Peyton McWhorter; special friend, Patsy Majek, that was his “meals on wheels” for lunch; and many more friends. Visitation with the family present will be from 6 P.M to 8 P.M. Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 A.M. Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dean Bearden officiating. Burial will follow at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
