John “Roger” Barnes, 76, a loving, generous and devoted husband and father, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Roger was born May 14, 1938, in Corpus Christi, Texas, the only son of Wilbur Truman Barnes and Edith Jo Shelton Barnes. He graduated from W. B. Ray High School in 1956, was honorably discharged from the U. S. Air Force in 1961 and, in l962, graduated from the Department of Public Safety patrol school. He served 45 honorable years with the DPS, 30 years in Highway Patrol and 15 more as an Inspector and then Supervisor in Motor Vehicle Inspection. After active service, he was commissioned as a Special Texas Ranger and retained that distinction until his death. Roger was a lifetime member of the Al Amin Shrine in Corpus Christi and a Master Mason in the Beeville Lodge. Roger and his wife, Carole L. Barnes, were married just short of 18 wonderful and memorable years. Survivors include Carole, his wife; Lisa Jo Pollock, daughter; Wade Travis Barnes, son; David John Watson and Christopher James Hertzog, step-sons; 13 grandchildren; and a host of friends. He will be ever present in their lives and their hearts. To his wife, he gave the gift of his boundless love and friendship, his incredible gentleness and his never ending generosity. His good and kind spirit lives on. Visitation will be at Sawyer-George Funeral Home on Monday, February 9, 2015 from 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. with the family present from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. There will be a Masonic Service at 7 P.M. Monday, February 9, 2015, also at the funeral home. All are invited to attend the visitation and services. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at Seaside Memorial Park on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 2 P.M.
