Joe Allen Payne, age 81, of New Braunfels, Texas, formerly of Corpus Christi, Texas went home to his heavenly father on Sunday, January 6, 2013. Mr. Payne was born November 19, 1931 in Grandfield, Oklahoma to Ray and Mildred Payne. Joe attended High School in Kingsville, Texas. He served his country in the Korean War as a Ranger in the United States Army. After serving in the Army he married Joy Hogan Payne in 1956 and they lived in Corpus Christi, Texas for over forty years before moving to New Braunfels, Texas to be closer to their daughter Tammera and her family. Joe worked in the oil field and was a member of the SPE and API organizations. He was a long-standing member of Annaville Baptist where he served as an usher and greeter. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Joy; daughters, Tammera (Andy) Schultz, Dylnn (Reese) Mitchell; son, Bart Payne; grandchildren, Lillian, Drew, Jack, Nicholas, Jacob, Megan and Lauren; brothers, Jerry and Billy Payne; sister, Margaret Davis. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, January 11, 2013 from 10:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. at Annaville Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 P.M. Friday, January 11, 2013 at Annaville Baptist Church with Brother Robert Simmons officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at 2:00 P.M. in the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
