Jim S. Menke, 71 of Falfurrias, Texas, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024 at home with his loving wife Kay by his side. The Lord wrapped his arms around him and carried him home. Jim fought a courageous battle with brain cancer for almost 2 years. During that time, Kay provided excellent care for her husband and he had quality of life up until the last 3 months of his life. Her loving care gave us more time with Jim and for that, we will be forever grateful.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sid and Eunice Menke. Jim is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kay Menke; two sisters, Sandra Cheatham (Mark), Judy Clark (Ted); stepson, Jack Maupin (Jennifer); nephew, Sidney Cheatham (Ashley); two granddaughters, Samantha and Katherine.
Jim worked as a pipeline superintendent for Mobil Oil/DCP Midstream at the La Gloria Plant for 42 years. He retired in 2016. Jim had a great love for car racing. He was a successful competitor and enjoyed racing for over 50 years. His firebird was his pride and joy. Through racing, he made life-long friends and enjoyed every minute on the race track. Jim loved snow skiing and was a member of the Corpus Christi Ski Club for over 20 years. He was an excellent skier and loved skiing with his buddies. Jim also loved boating and scuba diving and traveling. He was an excellent cook and loved cooking for all of his family and friends.
Jim was the kind of guy everyone loved. He was the life of the party. If you were around Jim & Kay, you always had a great time. He loved hosting parties and gatherings at their place on Lake Mathis. Jim was a real character and when he was around there was always lots of laughter and tons of fun. Jim was a dear friend to so many and will be truly missed. He had a wonderful life and will be fondly remembered by all of his family and friends.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Sawyer George Funeral Home; 12497 Leopard St, Corpus Christi, Texas, 78410. Visitation will be at 9:00am and Service will be at 10:00am. Lunch to follow.
There will also be a Memorial Service in Falfurrias, Texas on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at the El Arbolito Event Center; 17315 US-261 S, Falfurrias, Texas. Visitation will be at 10:00am and Services will be at 11:00am. Lunch to follow.
