J.D. Hofer, 80, a lifetime south Texas resident departed this life peacefully to be in the presence of the Lord, Monday, February 17th. He was born in Mercedes, Texas on June 12, 1933. J.D. is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Letha Hofer, brother Joe Paul and his beloved daughter, June Debra Hofer. He leaves loved ones, his wife of 57 years, Joan, son, J.D. Jr. (Janel), daughters, Janet(Chad) and Jennifer(Jimmy), and his 5 grandchildren Kelsey, Keeley, Korey, Camden, and Connor. With a big heart, Grandad, as known by the family, never met a stranger. He was active in the U.S. Army 1956-1959 and continued with school while serving. He was a self-taught engineer that worked his whole life and loved the people at his workplace. Grandad enjoyed traveling to gun shows especially in the company of his gun buddies. He belonged to the N.R.A. and I.S.A and he was also the 5th lifetime member of the Remington Society of America. He was always on the operating side of the camera capturing family moments. Family was the main priority and every grandchild knew that they could count on Grandad. He wanted nothing more than to watch them grow and selflessly supported them the whole way. Dearly missed but forever in our life, we love you Grandad.
