Janelle Harper Liska, died at her residence in Corpus Christi, Texas on Wednesday morning, September 1, 2010 at 2:00 A.M. after a long illness. She was born in Robstown, Texas, July 24, 1930. She was a graduate of Robstown High School and Texas A&I University. She taught 2nd grade at Hattie Martin Elementary from 1960 thru 1964. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Robstown, attending regularly, serving in various posts, later attending Grace United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas with her daughter and granddaughter, Caroline and Nell. She was admired as a wife and mother, and recognized for her graceful hospitality, her open door, her acceptance and nurturing acts towards her friend’s children, children’s friends and her wonderful influence on generations down to her granddaughter Nell’s. She expressed both a fine yet resourceful sense of style. Her family was the object of her love and prayers. She enjoyed singing patriotic, Irish and traditional cowboy songs. She was an avid deer hunter, an excellent shot with a rifle and loved hunting camps. She enjoyed football, spending her honeymoon watching Bennie play his final college game. She was a native of Robstown, her late grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Harper were early 20th century farmers and ranchers in western Nueces County. She is preceded in death by her father, Burl A. Harper, her mother, Christine Pratt Harper, and her sister, Elizabeth Lynn Stern. She spent many summers as a young girl in Oklahoma with her grandmother and grandfather Pratt. She is survived by her devoted husband of almost 60 years, Bennie Liska; three children, Ben A. Liska, William Boyd Liska and Caroline Liska-Thompson (Dr. John T. Thompson); two granddaughters, Elizabeth Liska and Janelle Caroline “Nell” Thompson; one great granddaughter, Madison Liska. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, September 3, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Robstown with Rev. Barbara Dyke officiating. Burial will follow in Robstown Cemetery. The family would like to give special appreciation to her caregivers, Ester Bueno, Dalia Gonzalez, Sylvia Guerrero, Corina Garcia and Linda Wilson. Janelle Harper Liska was a devoted wife, loving mother, and her lovely, graceful disposition was rooted in lifelong Christian faith in Jesus Christ.
