James A Walker “Jim”, 81, passed away on June 11th, 2021. Those who know him have lost a gentle and gracious friend.
Jim was born on November 10th, 1939, in Brownwood, Texas to Grady and Louise Walker. As a young man Jim spent most of his summers working on a fishing boat, and helping his grandfather run his café at Mills Warf in Rockport Texas. He graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 1958 and attended Del Mar Collage until his enlistment in the U.S. Army in 1960. In April of 1964 he began a 37-year civil service career, beginning with CCAD (1964-1982) as an instrument specialist and then transferring to the Department of the Navy (SPAWAR) system center until his retirement as Supervisor of technical specialist in 2001. He was an avid bowler, bowling three nights a week, participating in many leagues and tournaments. Fishing remained a large part of his life in retirement as did going to Calallen Friday night football games to watch his grandkids Mitchell, Kimberley, and Natalie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Linda (Walker) Brown.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia Walker; daughters, Devree (Troy) Curtis and Donna (Frank) Peters; grandchildren, Mitchell, Kimberley and Natalie Peters; brothers-in-law, Barney Brown, Jerry (Susan) Richardson, J.R. Richardson; sister-in-law, Sharon McCombs; Chris Brown, John Richardson and numerous nieces and nephews.
