James Dean Mathieu
Born November 16, 1941 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He died March 16, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war and was an electrician for his whole adult life and worked for the Boll Weevil coalition after he retired.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Edward Mathieu; his brother, Robert Kenneth Mathieu and his first-born son, Sean Edward Mathieu. He is survived by his mother, Gladys Clarice Vallow Mathieu Barnes; his wife of 54 years, Janet Kay Gilliam; his daughter, Kellie Elizabeth Mathieu; his son, Robert Sprague Mathieu with his spouse Heather and his grandson, Mitchell Edward Mathieu along with many cousins and friends. He is also survived by his beloved cat, named Cat.
Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to play poker and could bluff with the best. He loved history and could tell great stories. He was a no nonsense kind of man and would give you his opinion whether you wanted it or not. He enjoyed watching birds while sitting in his garage after his retirement along with his many creative projects. He loved his garden and puttering around his property. He will be greatly missed.
