James Drew, Jr

October 26, 1951 — November 8, 2012

James Marvin Drew, Jr., passed away on November 8, 2012. He's going home to his beloved family that he missed so much. The tragedies that he had to encounter were greater than he could stand. He had a wonderful life until the year 2005. He was born in Rotan, Texas on October 26, 1951 to James Marvin Drew and his wife Reba Glynn Burney Drew. He traveled with his family for the first 14 years of his life from Texas to Japan, Alaska and then finally returning back to Texas and settling in Corpus Christi where he graduated from Richard King High School in 1970. He attended Del Mar College and started working with his father during his teen years and as an adult his first real job was working for Miller's Barbeque before entering a long career with Citgo Refinery as Area Supervisor. James worked hard and loved work, and he always said he would never retire because he loved working. When he visited his family in Austin he couldn't stay still. In order to last the weekend he would have to build something just so his mother could keep him for a couple of days. He was always involved in something. He was instrumental in helping work and build the Corpus Christi Pistol and Rifle Club. He was so proud of his son, Nicholas, for his natural ability to shoot and win competitions. He tried almost every sport including football, fishing, hunting, skeet shooting, riding motorcycles, ski-doo's, enjoyed welding, carpentry, and his love to create some of the best barbeque brisket in the world. He loved to have friends over on the weekends. He would cook for days just to see people enjoy eating. Everyone knew his very stubborn side and you could never change his mind about anything once it was made up, but he treasured his friendships, neighbors and all the crew he ever worked with at Citgo. They learned to love him for his eagerness to give freely without conditions and never expecting anything in return but friendship. He said he would never leave his neighborhood because he had the best neighbors in the world. He met and married Donna Sue Howell Drew in 1974. He said he had several girlfriends, but none of them could compare to Donna's sweetness and beautiful soul. From their marriage they were blessed with a son, Nicholas Wesley Drew. James was so proud of Nicholas and his accomplishments. His son was lost in a tragic accident in 2005. James never recovered from Nicholas' death. His wife Donna lost her life to cancer in 2010 and again James suffered. James then married Natalie Castro Drew in 2011, and she passed away only nine months after they were married. James lost his father, James Drew in 2006, and his mother, Reba Drew in 2010. Left behind to remember James is his big sister, Marilyn Drew and his little sister, Cheryl Limas (Roy); nephew, Damon Drew (Danetta); niece, Julie LePage (Sam); nephew, Christopher Espiritu (Leticia); and numerous other nieces and a nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins. He treasured all his friends and co-workers and loved them with all his heart. We wish to thank the staff at Bay Area Hospital for the care and comfort they provided for James and also, a special thanks to his close and loving friends who helped watch over him while he was ill, Amanda Parker and family and Irene Morales and family. His family and friends know that James is finally happy because he is reunited with his Lord and Savior and his family. Weep not for me as I leave this earth, This shell of a body where I've dwelled since birth. I go now before you and I know it's hard, But I know you will keep me within your hearts. Until the day we meet and rejoice once more, I'll be waiting for you at Heaven's door. Visitation will be from 6 P.M until 8 P.M. Monday, November 12, 2012 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Curtis Crisp officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.
