James "Jim" Thomas Cypert passed away peacefully after a long, fulfilling and wonderful life on Friday, January 25, 2019. He was born May 23, 1934 in San Patricio, Texas to John Thomas and Artie Mae Cypert. Fondly known as "Jimmy" to his family and friends, he was born with a giving heart that knew no limitations. To have the honor of knowing Jim meant you were a friend for life, as he was always willing to assist the needs of others at any time and without question. He was a devoted father and loved his family deeply. Jim enjoyed camping and jumping off of rocks at the Frio River every year, in addition to building and tinkering on car and home projects. His most prized possession was the 1936 Ford pickup that he built from the ground up. Jim worked at Southwestern/Kerr McGee refinery for 38 years, where he met many of his wonderful lifelong friends. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 17 years, Bette Dueitt Cypert, his parents, and sister Etta Jean and her husband, John Hunter. He is survived by his children: John Cypert (Tina) of Malibu, CA, Cindy (Matt) Robinson of Culver City, CA, Jill (James) Powers of Fulton, Nancy (John) King of Houston, Bill (Leigh) Garrett of Lillian, John (Sherri) Garrett of Moody, Gaye Lynn (Mark) Hadlock of Corpus Christi; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Visitation will be on Friday, February 1, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 10:00 AM, at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Medina Children’s Home (armsofhope.org) and The HollyRod Foundation (hollyrod.org). The children wish to extend their gratitude to Jim’s sister-in-law, Kathy Howden and her husband Steven for their love and support, as well as the many friends who visited Jim and helped raise his spirits. We also wish to thank Kristina Kovanda and other hospice aides, as well as the nursing facility caregivers who assisted with his care.
