Jack R. Stanford, 78, passed away on January 8, 2015 after a long battle with Parkinsons. He was born on July 25, 1936 in Driscoll, Texas to Blake and Lilly (Pohlmeyer) Stanford. After graduating from Robstown High School, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge from the military he went to work for TXDOT where he worked for 36 years. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sue Stanford; two sons, Jack Jr. ( Esther) of Valrico, Florida and Doug ( Charolette) of Corpus Christi as well as one daughter, Melissa Zapalac (James) of Rockport; five granddaughters, 1LT Darcy Dahlen (Phil) of Georgia, Stacy Stanford of Lubbock, Julie Stanford of Corpus Christi , Megan and Lilly Zapalac of Rockport; and two step grandchildren, Blayne Jones and Sierra Vela of Corpus Christi. Other survivors include his sisters, Dorris Casey of Houston and Barbara Theiss of Driscoll; mother-in-law, Velma Moseley of Robstown and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at River Ridge Nursing Home, especially Jody and Lydia as well as Dale and Roxanne Mathis and David Babbit of New Century Hospice. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 11, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Services will be on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with The Reverend Stan Whites of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
