Jackson Wheeler Lester, known to his friends as "Jack," passed away on December 25, 2018 at the age of 73 years. He was born August 22, 1945 in Dallas, Texas to Herman Jack and Bertha Era Lester. Jack enlisted in the United States Army at the age of twenty-two and served for three years. He graduated from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas and began a career in sales. He was a salesman and retired from Lakeland Marketing. Jack loved to go fishing, camping, and going to the movies. He was a Texas Longhorn, Houston Texan, and Houston Astros fan. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Jack Lester and his mother, Bertha Era Lester. Jack is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mercedes Lester; his three sons, Anthony Hernandez of Houston, Texas, Chris Lester of Dallas, Texas, and John Lester of San Marcos, Texas; his two grandsons, Jacob and Kobe Lester and his cat, Bruce. Visitation will be on December 27, 2018 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on December 28, 2018 at 9 a.m. at the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Anthony Aquino, Ronnie Watson, Dan Markel officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to MD Anderson Cancer Center. The family would like to send their sincere appreciation to the doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, the nurses at National Nursing and Rehab, and the nurses at Harbor Hospice.
