Howard Nelson "Red" Vaughn 79, passed from this earth into Gods hands May 31,2012. He was born to Hubert N. Vaughn and Irene Smith Vaughn in Mark Tree, Arkansas. He was raised in Flint, Michigan, where he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Howard then moved to Texas and was a diesel engineer for Mike Hooks Dredging Company until 1975, and worked for Anderson Petroleum Company as a tankerman until he retired. His parents and a brother Charles R. Vaughn preceded him in death. Red is survived by his wife of 52 years Harriet C. Vaughn; two daughters, LaDawn Vaughn (Melvin) Goce and Connie M. Vaughn; two sons, Howard Vaughn, Jr., and Hubert R. (Angela) Vaughn; four granddaughters, Misty Vaughn, Christina Vaughn, Breanah Flores, and Adrianna Vaughn; two grandsons, Michael Morris and Mataio Goce; sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Larry Misuraca; and a much loved step-mother, Agnes Vaughn of Tennessee. His good friend Carol Kilgore said it best "He was one of the most honorable men I have ever met". Our family would like to thank the staff of Spohn Shoreline and the staff at Trisun Care Center for the care he was given this past month. Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
