Henry Horace Smith, age 87, passed away on January 4, 2025. Henry was born on September 8, 1937, on the banks of the Brazos River, in Throckmorton County, Texas. He grew up in Young County, Texas with his brother Dale and his sister Floetta "Flo". His parents were Elzy and Roberta Pounds Smith. He graduated from Newcastle High School in 1956. After working in the oil field and doing farm work, he graduated from Tarleton Junior College in 1960, then from North Texas State University in 1962. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and stationed at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico until his Honorable Discharge. In 1964 he began working for the department of army at CCAD in Corpus Christi Texas and worked there until he retired. He and Nancy Creel Smith were married April 15, 1965 in Newcastle, Texas.
Henry is survived by his loving wife Nancy, the special Mullenix family of Maegan, Emma, Ethan, Jason, Dalton, Cindy, Thomas, Matt, Sarah, Dillon, and Aaron. His brother Dale, and his wife Judy and their son Clint, his sister's children Randy and Laurie, and their dad Lee. The Creel family Pat Simpson, Judy and Don Cradduck, Ruby and Doug Quinn, Bub and Cathy Creel, Debbie and Anthony Meurer, Steve Simpson, Gayle and Bruce Bailey, Ben and Karen Taylor, Mac Creel, Sumer Shelton, Rachael and Sam Creel, Will and Nikki Cradduck and all the great nieces and nephews.
Henry enjoyed being around his mule Festus and horses. He was a cowboy, always outside doing something, playing with the kids, and he was such a young soul. He loved sweets, including his homemade peach ice cream and Nancy's homemade banana pudding. We all love and miss him dearly.
