Henrietta Vrana

March 24, 1924 — March 17, 2024

Nassau Bay

Henrietta B. Vrana, 99, of Robstown, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024. She was born March 24, 1924 to Frank and Barbara (Vasek) Prochaska in Taylor, Texas. She was the youngest daughter of nine children.

Growing up on a farm outside Robstown she fondly and proudly remembered that her parents provided their home for Mass for the parish of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church before the church was built, and later grew flowers for the church. She loved to grow flowers and won yard-of-the-month several times. Her kolaches were sought after by her family and friends. The rosary was her constant companion until the day she died, and she saw to it that the family rosary was a regular occurrence. Another regular companion was a fishing pole during her trips to the family cabin on lake Corpus Christi. The thing she most looked forward to when coming home was her cat Sammy. When asked the secret of her longevity she readily replied it was due to living on a farm without preservatives. The center of her life were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, but most of all her Catholic faith.

She met and married Leo Vrana in Robstown where they raised their family for 64 years. She was bookkeeper and secretary for Vrana Construction Company until they both retired.

She was an avid and award-winning quilter until the age of 99. She truly enjoyed her friends she met by volunteering at Robstown Riverside Hospital for 20 years and as a lifelong member of the St. Anne’s Altar Society.

Survivors include her daughters, Suzanne and Mary (Mark) and sons, Stephen and Gregory, two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Leo R. Vrana, her parents, brothers Joe Prochaska (Mary), Jerry Prochaska (Mary), George Prochaska (Elsie) and Frank Prochaska (Mary Ann), and sisters Mary Foyt (Charles), Frances Bailey (Joe), Alice Moore (Euel) and Sr. Genevieve Prochaska.

Visitation will be held at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Friday, March 22 from 4 pm until 7 pm, with a rosary after the visitation. Funeral Mass will be held 9 am Saturday, March 23 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church with Fr. Mark Whelan as presider, and Msgr. James Harris as concelebrant. Pallbearers are Tom Foyt, David Hellmann, Joe Lee Prochaska, Eric Bluntzer, Daniel Bluntzer, Eric Shafer and honorary Michael Rektorik. Burial will follow at Robstown Memorial Cemetery.
