Harold Lee Taylor, Sr., 91 passed away on February 19, 2014 after a long illness and is now in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Harold was born in Gouldbusk, Texas on April 8, 1922 to John Lloyd Taylor and Ruby (Cozart) Taylor. He was raised in Gouldbusk, Texas and San Marcos, Texas along with his four brothers; Jesse Taylor, Henry Taylor, Houston Taylor and Arthur Taylor and also two sisters, Lottie Hominick and Vera Denyer. Harold moved with his family to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1934 when he was 12 years old. He attended Roy Miller High School and then was employed in the restaurant business. He joined the United States Navy in 1942 and became a First Class Seaman and was a World War II veteran. Harold was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1943. He met the "love of his life," Mary Vera (Garcia) Taylor in 1944 and within a few months, they were happily married and were inseparable for 70 years. Harold and Mary married on February 19, 1944. Harold and Mary had raised 8 wonderful children in Corpus Christi, Texas. The eight children are Harold Lee Taylor, Jr. (Vera) of Fredericksburg, Texas, Bobbie Ellen Guynes, John Lloyd Taylor, (MaryAnn) of Vail, Arizona, Rex Allen Taylor (Janet) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Darrell Sean Taylor, Kathryn Vera Charba of Corpus Christi, Texas, Janet Marie Thibodeaux (Troy) of Churchpoint, Louisiana and Robert Wayne Taylor of Temecula, California and Ayala (George) Munoz. Harold and Mary also have 16 beautiful grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Harold was employed with Yellow Cab Company in Corpus Christi, Texas for 40 years, was employed as a truck driver and was employed in the restaurant business. In his retirement years, Harold loved to tinker in his garden, watch John Wayne movies, socialize with his friends and neighbors in the Sea Breeze community and most of all sit on his porch with his beloved wife, Mary and talk about the "good old times" when they were growing up and about their married life, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchild. Harold will be remarkably remembered as a loving, caring gentleman that loved his beautiful, sweet wife Mary, adored his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great grandchild and loved to be sociable and charitable to everyone he met. Harold will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, especially his family and close, dear friends and fondly remembered as a gentleman that had a kindred soul for everyone that walked into his life and he into their lives. Visitation will be from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at 2:00pm on Monday, February 24, 2014 at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
