Harold Ray Miller died on Sunday, September 23, 2012. But that is the small detail...for he lived 84 full years. Harold was born on November 10, 1927 in San Antonio, Texas to James and Lillian Miller, the second of six children. Harold resided in Corpus Christi his entire life, attending Corpus Christi High School until enlisting in the U. S. Marine Corp. in 1945. He was discharged from the service in 1949, but was called back to the Korean War in 1950, where he served as an instructor at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Upon his second discharge, Harold was employed at Sinclair/Coastal States Petrochemical where he was a devoted employee for over 37 years. Harold and Vernie married on November 8, 1952. Harold promised his bride to be faithful and love her forever, a promise we all witnessed for 60 years. Together they shared a life that surpassed anything most could imagine...one full of love and care and family values that gives us a special bond. Harold was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church and a 32nd degree Mason. His passion was family, hard work, hunting and softball, his softball career spanning over 72 years resulting in induction into the Corpus Christi Softball Hall of Fame. Harold was welcomed into Heaven by his parents; brother, J. E. Miller; and sisters, Ernestine Lundee and Gloria "Pee Wee" Brey, and we must mention his sweet companion and puppy, Sophia. His legacy include his wife, Vernie; children, Steve (Lauren), Vicki, Kelly (Mark); grandchildren, Jaclyn (Clay), Courtney (Britt), Bryan (Mariah), Maddy (Colin), Bailey, Chase, Abbey, Joey and Duke; great grandchildren, Peyton, Paige, Charlotte, Reid and Luka; brothers, Leroy (Barbara) and Bill; honorary daughters, Karen Ross and Julie Medina; and too many family and family friends to mention. Visitation will be from 2 P.M. until 8 P.M. with the family present from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home, 12497 Leopard Street, Corpus Christi, Texas. Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 A.M. Friday, September 28, 2012 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill Walden officiating. The family will depart immediately after the service for Greenwood Cemetery, Llano Highway, Fredericksburg, Texas for a graveside service beginning at 4:00 P.M., also on Friday. Pallbearers will include grandsons, Bryan Miller, Chase Steward, Duke Dizdar, Clayton Harris and Colin Graham, and honorary son, David Schumacher. Everyone is invited to come.
