Guadalupe “Lupe” Villareal Garcia, age 91, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on January 28, 2014. He was born March 19, 1922 in Skidmore, Texas to Crispin and Natividad Garcia. He worked at the Corpus Christi Camp from 1938 to 1953 fixing fences and roads and worked in construction from 1950 to 1953. Guadalupe worked for the Department of the Navy and NAS Corpus Christi as a forklift operator for thirty-five years from 1945 to 1984. Mr. Garcia served in WW II and the Korean War. He started his military career in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on October 22, 1945. He served in the United States Coast Guard and was discharged on July 31, 1963. After serving in the Coast Guard he served in the Merchant Marines from 1962 to 1966. During his military career he received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and the Meritorious Unit Award. He was preceded in death by his son, Lupe Garcia, Jr. and is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Juanita Garcia; children, Elodia (Merced) Pena, Crispin (Maria) Garcia, Rene (Isabel) Garcia, Rosa Ana wife of Lupe, Jr., Noe (Ann) Garcia, Edmund (Ester) Garcia, Janie (Enrique) Venegas, Natividad (Alejandro) Medrano; seventeen grandchildren, Karen, Cristy, Gina, Scott, Pam, Rebecca, Karolina, Richie, Jerry, Clarissa, Adam, Jason, Adrian, Deanna, Denise, Jennifer, John Joanne, Leonard and Alexandra; twenty great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M on Sunday, February 2, 2014 with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 3, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at St Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church, 3901 Violet Rd., Corpus Christi, Texas. Interment with full military honors will follow at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
