He was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Corpus Christi. In 1953 he graduated from Austwell-Tivoli High School and soon after enlisted in the United States Air Force. While serving with the USAF, on Lackland AF Base, he earned the rank of staff sergeant and also played on the US Air Force baseball team. In 1972, he married the love of his life, Mary Louise Jacobo. Gonzalo made a career as a post master for the United States Postal Service in Corpus Christi After retiring from the postal service he decided to go back into the work force as a self employed truck driver then moving on to being a bus driver for special needs children at TMISD. He grew many special relationships with his students after 12 years.
In his earlier years of life Gonzalo enjoyed playing baseball, playing dominos, spending time with family, especially his brothers, as they would make many memories on hunting and fishing trips. Gonzalo was known as the “Captain” of the boat during fishing trips with his brothers.
