Glenn Stephens

November 10, 1932 — March 21, 2014

Glenn (Speedy) Stephens, 81, passed away on March 21, 2014 after a courageous 33 year battle with heart disease. He was born on November 10, 1932 to Joseph Stephens and Elsie Cornelius Stephens in Corpus Christi. Glenn was a lifelong resident of South Texas having lived on family farms near Alfred and Agua Dulce. He attended CC High School where he met the love of his life, Henrietta Knox. They were married on Apr. 1, 1949 and shared a wonderful life together for 65 years. He spent his early life as a cowboy on area ranches. He worked at Southwestern Refinery and took his refining skills to the oilfield and earned a reputation as an expert on production facilities, platforms, pipelines, and compressor stations. Beginning in 1976, he managed Stephens & Sons where he and his sons operated a successful Oil & Gas consulting business. Glenn was a devoted member of the Windsor Park and Kings Crossing Church of Christ. Glenn had a special gift of reaching out to young men that needed a strong father figure in their life. He was active with little league, Texas Youth Rodeo, and the Texas A&I Rodeo Club. In later life, he was an active participant in the Kings Crossing Prison Ministry where he focused on reaching out to juvenile programs. He is survived by his wife, Henrietta; four sons (and spouses) Ralph (LaRue), Rocky (Diane), Ron (Kathy), and Randy (Christina); one daughter Glenda; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. The family would like to recognize all the friends that have reached out with support during the final days. Special thanks go to all the doctors and nurses and most especially to Dr. Paul Heath and Dr. Jacqueline Cohn who took such great care of him and extended his life for many years. The family wishes to recognize his dear friends Wayne and Suzie Greathouse for incredible love and support. Visitation will be held for Glenn on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 6 to 8pm at Kings Crossing Church of Christ. Services are set for Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 11am at Kings Crossing Church of Christ at 5901 Yorktown Blvd. Corpus Christi. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 pm at the Cornelius Brothers Cemetery near Alfred, TX. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Kings Crossing Prison Ministry or the Sunny Glen Children’s Home.
