George S. Sorensen, 81, of Odem, Texas passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015 surrounded by family in his home. He was born in Spirit Lake, Iowa on October 27, 1933 to Fred and Frances Sorensen. He joined the air force after graduation in 1952. He met Shirley (Pat) Morris when stationed in San Angelo. They were married in November 1955. After leaving the service he worked FAA in Oklahoma City as a flight line mechanic. In 1967 he went to Bell Helicopter as a service representative. During the time he worked at Bell, he served on the presidential flight detachment with a White House clearance. He sold real estate for Century 21 and he also worked at Wal-Mart for 5 years in the paint department. He was an avid bird watcher. He loved nature and ranch life in Odem. He loved family outings. George is proceeded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 3 sisters, his son Gary, his grandchild Stephanie and his son in law, Rod. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Pat; his daughter, Sharon Rothlisberger; and his sons, Brian and Paul (Cindy) Sorensen; and his daughter in law, Cynthia Sorensen. He has 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Visitation will be on Monday July 20, 2015 from 5-7pm at Sawyer George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10am on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. The family would like to thank the Altus Hospice nurses and caregiver Elizabeth from River City home health. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or the Humane Society.
