George D. Shaffer of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away quietly at home on March 29, 2017. He was born June 29, 1929 in Oil City, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Texas A&I Kingsville, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years in the Korean Conflict. When he returned to Texas he worked his way through law school. He received his Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law in 1967 and returned to Corpus Christi to open his practice. He had practiced law for 50 years right up until weeks before his death. He was active in Oil Belt Little League with his sons, enjoyed bowling for many years and loved traveling with his family. He served as Nueces County Commissioner of Precinct 1 from 1989 to 1992 and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Vance D. Shaffer and Erma Shaffer; his sister, Mary Lorenz; sister-in-law, Lillian Shaffer; father-in-law, Cliff Landen; and brother-in-law, Mark Landen. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, April; his two sons, Ty Shaffer (Kandy) of Natalia, Texas and Ky Shaffer of San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren, Samantha Shaffer and Cody Shaffer; brothers, Vance W. Shaffer, Dale Shaffer (Shirley) and Robert Shaffer; brother-in-law, Don Lorenz; sister-in-law, Marilyn Landen; mother-in-law, Gloria Landen; and many nieces and nephews. George loved people, loved the law, but most of all he loved his family. He was a wonderful husband, a great dad and a very proud grandfather. His quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be at Sawyer-George Funeral Home on Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 4 P.M. until 6 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted at Grace United Methodist Church, 14521 Northwest Boulevard on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 10 A.M. with burial to follow in Seaside Cemetery. The Rev. Jason Fry will officiate. The family wishes to thank Christus Spohn Home Health Care and Angel Bright Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.
