Gary L. Ross, 73, passed away on June 11, 2011, at home with his family after a long illness. He was born on August 28, 1937 to Jimmy and Lloyd Ross. Gary spent his early life and the last 40 years in Calallen. After graduating from Calallen High School and the University of Corpus Christi, he served in the U. S. Air Force, with a tour of duty in Okinawa. While there, he was ordained as a deacon in the missionary Baptist Church. After leaving the military, Gary worked with the American Red Cross at Ft. Hood, Texas. After earning his master's degree from Corpus Christi State University, Gary enjoyed a long teaching career. Loved by many, Gary is remembered for his quick wit, dry sense of humor, and teasing nature. Gary blessed many people with his gift of music. He played the piano or organ for several churches, many weddings, funerals and revivals. Gary was a man of dignity, always living with honor and faith. We will surely miss him, and look forward to re-uniting with him in our heavenly home. He is preceded in death by his parents. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Janice; son, David; sister, Joy (Richard) Heath, niece, Stephanie Heath, and close cousin, Gatha (John K.) Jones. Visitation will begin at 9 A.M. Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Calallen Baptist Church, with the memorial service following at 10 A.M. Interment will be in Robstown Memorial Park. Brother Jack Willoughby, pastor of Calallen Baptist Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse, the American Red Cross or Gideons International. The family wishes to especially thank Celeste Rojas, as well as Santa Fe Home Health and the Lighthouse Hospice of Corpus Christi for their loving kindness and special attention to Gary and our family during his illness.
