It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Evelyn R. King Bowen at the age of 73. Evelyn was born in Refugio, Texas on September 22, 1938 and went to be with her Lord on May 28, 2012. She was a loyal member of The First Baptist Church of Mathis for the past 10 years and very much enjoyed her Sunday school class with her friends. She was one of the first females to become successful at driving an18-wheeler as her career. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening and canning for her family and neighbors as well as fishing and relaxing on a nice day. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be missed greatly by her family and loved ones. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ruth King; three brothers, James, Vincent and Eddie King; a sister, Marjorie Ingriola. She is survived by her husband, W.H. Bowen; sons, James and Kenneth Penna; daughters, Judith (Tim) Myers, Brenda (Troy) Tomme, Elizabeth (Tom) Hinson; step-daughters, Terry Parrish, Marline Luna and T.J. Bowen; grandchildren, David Anderson, Kayla Swails, Courtney Colston, Samantha Penna, Frederick Delius, Brendan, Steven and Braden Montgomery, Colton Hinson, Coy Bartlett, Brandi Bartlett, Jennifer Jones, Christopher Bartlett, Robbie Flora, Samantha Guerrero, Maria Mares, Hector Luna, Elizabeth Hayden and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; brother, Virgil King; sister, Elaine Carpenter. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, June 3, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, June 4, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Stehle officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 P.M. in the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Evelyn's name to The First Baptist Church of Mathis.
