Eunice Jeanne (Wilson) Ganer passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021 after complications from a non-COVID lung infection that began in late 2019. She was born December 18, 1932 to Harry “Bamby” Wilson and Serena Mae (Brown) Wilson in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, the fifth of six children. Eunice was raised on the Wilson family farm in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and enjoyed sharing fond memories of her childhood in Canada. She met her husband of 65 years, Milton “Popo” Ganer, while he was serving in the USAF and stationed at Fort Niagara, New York. Eunice worked for Texas Employment Commission for many years until her retirement in 1995.
Eunice was arguably one of the Houston Astros’ longest-running and most loyal fans, cheering them along through thick and thin...WOOHOO!!! She began attending their games way back in 1962, when the National League expansion Houston Colt 45s played in the open-air Colt Stadium before construction of the Astrodome. The last game she attended was Game 1 of the 2019 World Series in Houston. Eunice and Milton were very active in the Coastal Bend Shell Club and spent countless hours scouring beaches on trips far and wide with other members of the Club. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, dominos, card games; and most any type of board game, Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. Eunice loved funny movies, and laughing in general, and was always fast with her wit to make others around her smile with a quick quip.
Eunice’s passing was preceded by those of her parents; brothers Harold, Cliff, and Wilf; sisters Kitty and Rosie; and husband Milton. She is survived by her twin sons Donald and Ronald; grandchildren Melissa (Justin), Jarrett (Loyola), Adam, and Kathryn; and great-grandchildren Caleb, Laura, and Emilie. Eunice never missed sending a special card or gift and will be missed greatly, but we trust that she is enjoying some well-deserved R&R free of any bodily suffering in the great hereafter, with all those who have passed before her.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimers Association are suggested.
