Erna Sachtleben McCain was born October 3, 1924, in Angel City, Texas to Emil G. Sachtleben and Hulda Treybig Sachtleben. On April 13th, 2018, God welcomed with open arms one of his most faithful servants, Erna Sachtleben McCain. Erna (93 years) died peacefully in the home that she nurtured her beloved husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. As Erna entered paradise in perfect form, she was welcomed by her black-haired, blue-eyed husband of 65 years, Clayton R. McCain. During her last days on earth, she spoke of how handsome he was and how much she couldn’t wait to see him again. No question, their reunion was joy-filled and consumed with laughter. She was also preceded in death by parents, her grandson, Jacob D. Atkinson, great-grandson, Liam Robert McCain, and her brother and sister whom she cherished deeply, Opal Phillips and Calvin Sachtleben. She is survived by an army of a family who never had to question her dedication and love to each and every one of them: daughters, Sharon Shaw (Billy), Barbara Thompson (Glenn), Connie Nowell; sons, John C. McCain (Susan) and David E. McCain (Robbie). She is also survived by her 14 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren who spent countless hours in her home, making memories in imaginative play and bellies full of German-Chocolate Cake. Erna was a faithful servant who lived her life according to God’s word. She taught her children the power of prayer and to depend on the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Her greatest joy came from seeing those she loved happy. Whether she was making them laugh with her extreme wit, feeding them, or offering a bed to sleep; she wholeheartedly dedicated her life to God first, and family second. She was the epitome of a Proverbs 31, daughter, wife, mother, and friend. Although she will be greatly missed, her family finds comfort knowing she is standing before her King. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
