Emil Schmidt

Emil Rudolf Schmidt, age 78, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away September 29, 2015. He was born October 21, 1936 in Axtell, Texas to Emil and Hilda Schmidt. Emil proudly served his country for over twenty years. He was in the United States Army from November 9, 1954 thru October 17, 1957 and in the United States Air Force from August 13, 1958 thru September 30, 1975. He traveled to every country in the world while in the military with the exception of India & Mainland China. He was a member of Northwest Baptist Church, the DAV, American Legion and the NRA. He loved bowling, gardening & billiards. Emil was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Ruby Harris, Gladys Machac and Mildred Wood, two brothers, Nolan Schmidt and Weldon Schmidt and a grandson, Shaun Fletcher. He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years Rose Schmidt; sons, John Fletcher (Doreen), Eddie Schmidt (Jacqui); daughters, Dawn Seward (Virgil), Rose Buchanan, Linda Hankison (Larry), Veronica Rackley (Mark); a sister, Ola Mae Loosier; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, October 4, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, October 5, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Plutarco Garcia officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Fletcher, Eddie Schmidt, Virgil Seward, Russell Seward, Mark Rackley and Kevin Ramon.
