Eldon Cochran

Loving husband and father, Eldon D. "Ed" Cochran went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 25, 2012 with all his family by his side. Ed was born March 18, 1931 in Ovala, Tx to Claude R. and Stella (Phillips) Cochran. Ed was raised in the oil fields of West Texas working with his dad on drilling rigs. Inducted into the U.S.Army in 1951, Ed served as a front line medic during the Korean conflict and was highly decorated for his service and honorably discharged in October 1956. Ed met the love of his life, Phyllis Ann DeVilbiss, in Carrizo Spring, TX and was married Sept. 9, 1956. In 1958, they moved to Laredo, Tx where he went to work for the Texas-Mexican Railway. Later transferred to Corpus Christi, TX, they made their home in Calallen, where he retired from Tex-Mex in 1992 as Engineer/Train Master. He is preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, a daughter, Jennifer Groza (Scott) of Flour Bluff, TX, a son, Wayne Cochran of Calallen, TX., and a daughter, Carol Haney (Frank) of Wauconda, IL; a brother Earon and wife Vanette of Denver City, TX; nine grandchildren, five great- grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be open for visitors beginning at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 28th at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00pm. Services will be conducted at Calallen Baptist Church on Friday, June 29th at 10:00am. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm at Oak Island Cemetery in San Antonio, TX. Ed was a loving husband, father, and friend to all and will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Calallen Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Ed.
