Edward Reed Hanshaw passed away on December 18, 2011 after a long illness. He was born on December 4, 1929 in Odem, Texas to James and Jessie Hanshaw. As a young man he was generally known as "Slick". He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and one son-in-law. Here to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 61 years, Frances; his three children, Diana (Sam) Johnston, James (Emilee) Hanshaw, and Brenda Moore; five grandchildren and several great grandchildren along with one sister, Natalie Lane. Edward was actively involved in several fraternal organizations which included the Masonic Lodge #1337, Past Worshipful Master; Independence Chapter #1044 OES, Past Worthy Patron (3 times); and the Al Amin Shrine, Recorder 1988 - 1994 and Past Potentate 1999. He also was a member of the Directors Staff, Provost Guard (Past State Marshall) and Al Amin Chefs. During his life he worked for CPL, REA, TX Dept. of Public Safety, Southern Minerals, TX Oil & Gas and Dinero Oil. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sawyer George Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Sawyer George Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at the Odem Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Al Amin Transportation Fund would be appreciated.
