Edward Cecil "Ed" Armstrong, Jr., 81, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on July 12, 2012. Ed was born on March 27, 1931 in Archer City, Texas to Edward C., Sr. and Ruth Armstrong. He grew up and attended school in Electra, Texas. Ed was married to his wife of 61 years, Wanda. As a young man, Ed served in the Navy during the Korean conflict. He then moved his family to Corpus Christi and was employed at Koch Refinery (presently Flint Hills) for 33 years. Ed was also a family man and was blessed with two sons, six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. In his free time Ed enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, and playing the guitar. He enjoyed spending time with loved ones and regaling his family and friends with stories and the occasional song. He was also known to have the ability to fix just about anything. Ed was a former member of St. John Lutheran Church in Robstown, Texas and a present member of Grace United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. Ed will be best remembered for his kind and friendly nature. He will also be warmly remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Elsie Arnold and Evelyn Shults. Ed is survived by his wife, Wanda; two sons, Edward Armstrong, III (Carolyn) and Jerry Armstrong (Debbie) all of Corpus Christi, Texas; his grandchildren, Melissa (Travis) Bird, Stacy (Andrew) Nichols, Jeremy (Michelle) Armstrong, Edward (Sheena) Armstrong, IV, Shaye Armstrong, Brad (Reagan) Dear; and great grandchildren, Kevin, Nolan, Kenadee and Taylor. Ed is also survived by two sisters, Jimmie (David) Potter of Vernon, Texas and Ann McCarley of Wichita Falls, Texas, along with many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 16, 2012, at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Stan Whites and Pastor Jeffrey Thompson officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow at Memory Gardens in Corpus Christi. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution be made to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org. or 1.800.272.3900, Grace United Methodist Church or your favorite charity and suggests the recalling of a fond memory shared with Ed.
