Eduardo Gregorio Ruiz, 85, of Corpus Christi, Texas went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 30, 2017. Eduardo was born in Laredo, Texas on March 12, 1931 to the late Florencio and Enriqueta Ruiz. He graduated in 1951, from Laredo Martin High School, where he was known as “Suki”. On August 25, 1957, Eduardo married the love of his life, Guadalupe Almaraz in Laredo, Texas. This year would have marked their 60th wedding anniversary. They were inseparable. You would see them always together holding hands and dancing. They had five children. Later his family grew to include five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Ed enjoyed spending time with his family not only at home, but at high school sports, going out to eat, and outdoor activities including going to air shows to pass on the love of aircraft. Then in May, 1951, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Albrook Air Base in Panama to serve during the Korean Conflict. There he became an instructor teaching new GIs the intricacies of the electrical body of aircraft. He was also station at Castle Air Force Base, California and Chanute Air Force Base, Illinois. In September 1955, Eduardo received an honorable discharge as Sergeant and returned to the Laredo Air Force Base as a Civil Service employee to work as an aircraft electrician. In 1973, when the Laredo Air Force Base closed, Ed moved his family to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he worked as Civil Service employee at the Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) on military aircraft. Ed was a very faithful man who put God first. He was a member of St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church (Corpus Christi, TX) for 44 years. There he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and served as a Eucharistic Minister. Eduardo is survived by his loving wife, Guadalupe Almaraz Ruiz; sons, George Ruiz and Ricardo Ruiz; daughters, Nora (Ernest) Garcia, Gloria (Gary) Sykora, and Norma (Mark) Kozlowski; grandchildren, Kathrine (Pete) Rodriguez, Jacklynn Sykora, and Dwight Sykora; great-grandchildren, Xzavier, Alexander, Izaac, Vicente Rodriguez, and Audrey Ridge, and his two grandchildren in Heaven, Joshua Besinaiz and Gabriel James. Eduardo is also survived by his siblings, Florencio Ruiz, Berta (Mario) Delarosa, Consuelo Ruiz, Feliz Ruiz Mayorga of Laredo, Texas; Beatriz Ruiz Trainor of San Antonio, Texas, and Virginia Ruiz Trevino of Michigan; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Eduardo will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 5pm-7pm with a Rosary recited at 7pm at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 11:30am at St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church (3901 Violet Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410). Burial will follow the church service on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 1pm at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery (9974 I-37 Access Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to our local Wounded Warriors or Disabled Veterans.
