Douglas Lawrence Blumberg, 70, of Corpus Christi, TX passed away peacefully on Monday, November 9, 2015 after a brief illness. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, November 28, 1944 attended school at Corpus Christi College Academy and graduated from Roy Miller High School. Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Odessa Mickan Blumberg and is survived by his two children, daughter Natalie Landry and Husband Matt; son, Greg Blumberg and wife Liz; sister, Carolyn Strauss; fiancée, Carolyn Armentrout; grandsons, Hayden and Chase Blumberg; granddaughter, Hannah Landry as well as many other loving members of his extended family. Doug was a loving Father, Grandfather and friend to all. Doug was a veteran of the United States Army, serving three years with the 35th Engineer Batallion (Combat) from 1966 to 1969 with one tour of duty in Vietnam. During his service with the Army he was awarded several decorations of honor including a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze service Stars, Campaign Medal with V Device, Conduct Medal, and Sharpshooter Medal. He worked for Central Power and Light for 38 years retiring in 2001. He was a founding member of VFW post 3837 in Calallen where he was a former commander and Manager of the Cantina for many years. Doug loved Country music, the Dallas Cowboys and traveling. He never heard a good song he wouldn't get up and dance to, and had a passion for helping others in times of need and would not hesitate to help friends and families put together charity events. Over the years he helped raised thousands of dollars for various organizations and individuals all throughout the community he called home for so long. Visitation will be Thursday, November 12, 2015 from 5-7PM, with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 P.M. at the Sawyer George Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass for Doug will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Friday November 13, 2015 at St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church, Corpus Christi, TX. Doug will be laid to rest at12:00 noon in the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, TX.
