Our beloved mother passed safely home into the arms of her Lord and Savior on November 19, 2016; after 89 full years here with us. Dortha was born July 21, 1927, the second daughter of David and Ruth Baxter. Dortha married John Clifford Olney in 1949, and together they raised a family of 3 children. They lived in Corpus Christi until 1970 where Dortha was very active in the Corpus Christi Women’s Geological Society. She and her family were members of the First Presbyterian Church. They moved to Houston and both were involved in Pines Presbyterian Church where she was elected to the church board and served as an elder. They moved back to Corpus Christi in 2003 to live closer to their son, David. Dortha was an accomplished seamstress and sewed for the public in Houston for several years. She also loved to bake. Among her many specialties, she was known for her pralines, peanut blossoms, and banana nut bread. There was never a birthday or a holiday that those were not requested and, she always made extras to send home. Dortha gave back to her family, friends, and community in various ways. John and Dortha have 3 children who survive them: Marci Richter (Tampa, Fl.), Craig Olney (Indianapolis, In.), and David Olney (Corpus Christi, TX.). All are happily married to : Dr. Joel Richter, Christy Olney, and Jeanne Olney, who gave them 9 grandchildren: Nicole, Mandy, Jason, Jimmy, Ryan, Nathan, Amber, Amos, and Morgan, and 8 great grandchildren. Our mother gave us a wonderful path to follow of faith, marriage and parenthood. We will miss her greatly; but know that she will be with her beloved John in eternal peace. A Memorial Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at Jackson Woods Presbyterian Church at 2 P.M. Saturday, November 26th, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Dortha to Jackson Woods Presbyterian Church or your favorite Alzheimer’s research institute.
