Doris Browning Miller, 95, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on April 20, 2025.
Born May 10, 1929 to Eugene and Mary Cage Browning, the youngest of the five Browning girls of Bishop, TX, Doris lived most of her life in South Texas, and, except for a year spent in Iowa after her marriage to Kenneth Miller in September 10, 1948, resided either in Bishop, in a farm house off of FM 70, or in Corpus Christi, yet managed to bless countless people far and wide without living too distant from the house she grew up in.
It is impossible to fully biograph the impact of someone like Doris. As for career or accomplishments, she would have little in the way of what the world often lauds. But as for life, there is no end to her impact. Her calling was people, not out of any drive to “make a difference” in the generic way, but simply out of the conviction that the love of God could find no better avenue for dispersal than in the simple, daily living it out, in every moment and opportunity that presented itself. Her accomplishments, thus, are innumerable, many, perhaps, no bigger than a grain of sand, in their immediate significance, but in their number, in all the ways they were replicated and passed on, they likely could stretch the length of South Padre Island.
Doris, of course, would say none of that matters, for surely she did nothing for praise, only because she felt called to do it, to BE Jesus and not simply talk about Him.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Lucille Manning, Corrine Blanscet, Mary Shockley, and Ruth Long, her son, David Miller, her daughter, Molly Black, son-in-law Joe Black, grandson, Jeffrey Timme, great-grandson, Levi Humphries, and her beloved husband, Kenneth. She is survived by her children, Andranette Humphries, Mark Miller, and Phyllis Timme, her daughters-in-law, Kelli Bergoon and Jeannie Miller, sons-in-law Bill Humphries and Perry Timme, 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to Gideons International, (sendtheword.org) an organization Doris and Kenneth loved and devoted decades of service to.
