Doris Dokken, age 92, passed away on January 5, 2024, in Odem, TX. She was born on June 24, 1931, in Oakwood,-Texas to Arwine Honeycutt, and Myrtle Davis. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, respect, and service to others. Doris lived the last 61 years of her life and left this world from Odem, Texas in the farmhouse surrounded by pastures and cotton fields she called home. Humble and forgiving, she was the hub of a diverse network of family and friends. Through word and deed, she taught her children to always see the good in others. A full-time homemaker until her youngest reached school age, Doris managed her brood from her office, the kitchen. In times of accomplishment and turmoil, she stood by her children. From modest beginnings in sawmill camps, as her father moved the family from one logging site to another, food became a language of love. Neither family members nor friends ever left her home hungry. And she was always saving choice morsels for the pets and farm animals in her care. Moving from homemaker to working homemaker, in 1965 Doris went to work as kitchen staff for the Odem Independent School District and became well known for her desserts. Later she joined the First State Bank of Odem as a Bank Teller for more than 25 years, retiring only when forced to by health concerns. As a mother of four, she attended countless Little League, football, and basketball games, county fairs, and band concerts. At many of these events, she worked the concession stand and often was in the kitchen of the First Baptist Church of Odem assisting with food service for weddings, anniversaries, and funerals. She gave joyfully of her time and labor.
Doris is preceded in death by her father, Arwine Honeycutt, mother, Myrtle Davis, stepfather, Morris James Davis, her husband of 48 years, Linden Dokken, and her brother, Douglas Honeycutt. She is survived by her four children, Quenton (Patricia), Curtis (Mary), Greg (Laura), and Marla (John), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, brother Don Honeycutt, and sister, Dania West. Doris Jean Honeycutt Dokken made the world a better place. Proverbs 31:28 Her children arise and call her blessed.
