Doris Faye Shepherd Cody, also known as Mom, Granny & Great, entered into eternal life, February 8, 2022. She was an incredible woman & an inspiration to her family.
Doris was born to Robert and Era (Murphree) Shepherd on August 18, 1928 in Fairy, Texas. She grew up in Cranfills Gap, TX and worked on her grandmother's farm from a very early age. In 1942, the family moved to Dallas. In keeping with her strong desire to work, she applied for a job and told them she was 18 instead of 14, so she could work in a military factory with her dad. On October 29, 1945 she married Roy V. Cody in Corpus Christi, TX. They shared 53 years together until he passed away on October 31, 1998.
Doris worked as a bookkeeper all of her adult life, well after retirement age, working into her 80's. From this, you can gather that Doris was not one to be idle. If she wasn't working, she was likely playing Bunco with friends or sewing & making quilts for her children and grandchildren. She also loved cooking, tending proudly to her beautiful backyard garden or taking a trip anywhere that involved a casino. She also loved dancing, mostly at celebrations and parties at River Hills Country Club throughout the years. She taught us how to have fun and how to age with grace and dignity. She loved life and she loved her family beyond measure, but her first love was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her. Heaven has gained a beautiful new angel.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy V. Cody; and siblings, Wilma, Mildred, Nita, Wayne and Curtis.
She is survived by her two children, Dr. Robert (Karen) Cody of Corpus Christi, TX and Royce Cody Davis of Heath, TX; grandchildren, Blake (Katie) Davis of Heath, TX; Jessie (Mike) Hempstead of Aledo, TX; Jordan Cody of Austin, TX; and Blair (Rufus) Bell of Dallas, TX; great-grandchildren, William & Warren Davis; Peyton, Presley & Paxton Hempstead; and Everett & Elliott Bell; sister, JoAnn Shipman of Tool, TX and brother Gene (Barbara) Shepherd of Mabank, TX.
