Deborah Elaine Benson at 64 years of age passed from this life to her heavenly home at 4:14p.m. on May 6th, 2015 after a long illness. Born Deborah Elaine Shrock on Aug. 13, 1950 in Columbus, Ohio she was a 1968 graduate of Northland High School. She married and became Deborah Sheets. Immediately after high school she began her career as a file preparation clerk for Educator & Executive Insurance Co. which would later become JC Penney Casualty Insurance Co. During her 20 year career she would rise to hold positions of Director of Claims Services, Policy Services, and Underwriting. She left the insurance business for motherhood having a daughter, Marie Dana, on June 22, 1987. She would than marry Verne H. Benson on November 11, 1989; moved to Rockport, TX and became innkeepers of a small motel for eight years, and later moved to Corpus Christi, TX in 2000. She then entered Del Mar College and graduated as an associate in Applied Sciences- Health Information Technology Summa Cum Laude in May 2010. She was a good wife, loving mother, and a devout Christian who would read the Bible often. She is survived by her husband of 25 ½ years Verne Benson and one daughter Marie Dana Ruiz, a Nurse Practitioner, 1 granddaughter, 3 step-children, 6 step- grandchildren, 4 step great-grandchildren, and 5 brothers and sisters. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, May 10, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Sawyer-George Funeral Home.
