David Mcburnett

David Lee McBurnett passed away on April 15, 2013 at the age of 89. David was born on June 16, 1923 in Robstown, Texas. He was the second son of Walter Lee McBurnett and Marian Lee McBurnett. David grew up on the family farm in Petronila. He graduated from Robstown High School and attended Texas A&I at Kingsville before joining the Army Air Corp. During his basic training in Oklahoma City he married his high school sweetheart, Bernice Dewees Russ, on June 26, 1943. After receiving a medical discharge from the Army the newlyweds settled in Corpus Christi where he was employed by the City County Health Department as a health inspector. While in Corpus Christi, a daughter, Linda Lee and a son, David Barry were born. In 1950, the young family moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico where David first worked as a security guard for the Atomic Energy Commission and later with the Public Health Division. In Los Alamos, a second son, Randall Russ was born. In 1958, they returned to Texas settling in Robstown where he took over the family farming operation. When David retired from farming he worked briefly as a realtor for Century 21 and later he and Dewees operated the Golf Pro Shop at River Hills Country Club. David was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Samuel Wayne McBurnett. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dewees; his daughter, Linda Lee Schanen (Glynn) of Wimberley, Texas; his sons, Dr. David Barry McBurnett (Sandra) and Randall Russ McBurnett of Corpus Christi, Texas; and his sister, Marinel Parks of Texas City, Texas. He is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A memorial service celebrating the life of David will be Friday, April 19, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 13026 Leopard Street, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity. Sincere thanks to the nursing staff at Trisun Care Center River Ridge, Lighthouse Hospice care and the many years of medical attention under Dr. Michael Lovoi.
