David Paul Johnson

David Paul Johnson,63, of Corpus Christi, TX, passed away peacefully on December 2nd, 2023, with his wife and son by his side. Born on August 2nd, 1960 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he moved to Texas at the age of 9, always considering himself a true Texan.

David cherished his childhood memories of playing baseball at Oil Belt Little League, growing up along the Nueces River, and spending weekends with his family at Lake Mathis. He later became a coach at Oil Belt when his son joined a baseball team.

A graduate of Calallen High School in 1978, David began his career in the oilfield, rising to the position of supervisor with The Western Company. In 1988, he transitioned to a career as a licensed insurance agent, working as a Commercial Lines Specialist at Whitney-Vaky Insurance Agency. Eventually, he became the owner of Annaville Insurance and Annaville Insurance on Padre Island. In 1993, he added restaurant ownership to his endeavors with Salsa's Gourmet Mexican Restaurant. He was a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas and the Padre Island Business Association.

A proud Padre Islander for the last 23 years, David found joy in boating, fishing, jet skiing, and beachcombing at Padre Island National Seashore. He loved BBQs, spending time with family and friends, and relishing his role as "Papaw David."

David is preceded in death by his father Reid Johnson and his mother Peggy Hurt. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Billie Phillips Johnson, son Weston Johnson (Corina), stepson Gil Harris (Sammi), stepdaughter Jenna Harris, grandsons, Wyatt Johnson and Wil Harris, and granddaughter Kendall Killingsworth, brothers Don Johnson(Theresa), Scott Johnson (Laurie) and sister Shelley Quillin.

Celebration of Life service will be private.
