David Derr

December 1, 1956 — December 8, 2022

Robstown

David was born December 1, 1956, in Weslaco, Texas.  He was named after his maternal grandfather, David Lloyd Abney.  His parents were Albert Frasier Derr and Shirley Jean Abney.  David went to be with his Lord, surrounded by his family on December 8, 2022, after a short battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

David is survived by his loving spouse of 28 years, Nancy Ann Kline Derr; his daughter, Mandolynn Derr Johnson; adopted son, Michael Lloyd Derr; daughters and sons of the heart, Christine Allee (Chuck), Billie Jean Morrow Sahr (Kevin), Shana McVickers (Josh), Tammi Clark, Doug Pounds, Thomas James Pfarrer, Steven Brian Pfarrer, Micheal John Nickel and Eugene “Beau” Joseph Nickel. David had a heart big enough to love all his children. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

David served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era for 12 ½ years as a boiler room technician. His rank was BTI E6.  For the last 20 years he worked as a shop technician for the Toyota Lift of South Texas Family.  He was mechanic all of his life and loved working on anything with a motor.  He loved bringing old equipment back to life. David loved all God’s creatures, great and small. He would wake up every morning and feed the stray cats, then feed the dogs at work and finally he would throw scraps for the night critters.  He loved fishing and sitting around a fire when he could.  He just loved being outdoors.  David felt you should always leave things better than you found them.  He had a great heart of gold, loved people and would do anything for anyone.
